Just a little note to check in and let you all know I'm back safe and exhausted (in a good way) from my Tokyo trip =) I had an amazing time and wish I could pack up my students and move to Tokyo with them! I have loads of pictures, so I will post separate blogs, day by day, of the trip. My students are hyper this week, I guess a few days off and only 2 1/2 weeks until Christmas break is getting to them. Christmas break is sounding very nice right about now! I am working on my blog of day 1 in Tokyo, it might take a few more days...I'm going to bed earlier and earlier each night, as my students are wearing me out!
Happy December and happy Advent! =)

Kristen,
ReplyDeleteStumbled on your blog looking for the English name of a butterfly my wife took at Butterfly World. Sounds like you are having a good time over there.
My son and his wife were stationed at Kadena for three years and my wife, daughter and myself visited them twice. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. My daughter enjoyed Japan so much she is going to enlist in the Air Force after she graduates college next May so she can be stationed there on Okinawa or mainland Japan.
Anyway, I read in one of your posts that you were worried that you might run out of things to see in Okinawa. I don't think so.
Here's a list of places you might want to visit:
Hiji Falls, Cape Hedo (northern most point on island, take the road up the east coast, beautiful), Ie Island (short ferry ride), Tokashiki Island in the Keramas and Aharen Beach, Cape Zampa, Maeda Point/Cape, Katsuren castle, Nakijin Castle, Hama Higa Island, Zakima Castle, Fukushuen Chinese Garden, Southeast Botanical Garden at Christmas (beautiful Christmas lights), and the list goes on.
Places to eat:
1) I highly recommend Jakkapoes in Yomitan near the harbor. It's off Route 6 past Torii Station. Ask somebody on Kadena where it is as it is/was popular on base. It's a pancake house with very, very delicious pancakes. It's well off the beaten path and a little hard to find.
2) Cocos Ichibanya, it's a curry house that is also very popular. Not sure if you like curry or not but this place is good. It's just south of Gate 2.
3) A Korean BBQ on the same street as Cocos. You grill your own food at your table. Delicious.
4) The Capital Grill (I think that's what it is called) again on the highway running parallel to Kadena (same street as the two above). It's a Japanese Steak House.
5) A Japanese-Hawaiian restaurant called Ono Kau Kau across from Chatan Harbor near American Village.
You can find some of the places listed above in my online photo album: http://picasaweb.google.com/Hildebrandt.Paul
If you want better directions to some of these places, leave me a message on my Picasa site or email me at phildebrandt@integratedscience.com
Thanks Paul, I look forward to trying the new places you suggested!
ReplyDeleteI saw that you have been to the Capital Grill. I'm glad you like it.
ReplyDeleteI found a webpage for Jakkepoes in Yomitan. Great place for breakfast.
